Mark’s father used to tell a story about how difficult it was to change things in this world. Once when he was staying at a large hotel he noticed one night from the window a poor man sitting on a bench in the park nearby. As it was winter there were few people in the park, and no one else was sitting down.

The next morning Mark’s father looked out of the window again and saw that the man was still there. Mark’s father asked why.“Well, you see, in the park I used to dream about a warm comfortable bed in the hotel, and I slept very well. But all last night I dreamed about my old hard bench, and I slept very badly indeed.”
